I did nibble on it actually. First time I've ever had horse meat. For those who don't know those stinkin' 49ers lost the game. And, without further delay, here are pics of the cleaned up tooth. As you can see, the soft tissue is gone. Yum! I used my dremel to grind away some of the root up top to shape it the way I want for wire wrapping as well as polishing it. It's quite shiny now. Not completely pearly white, but horses don't generally have totally white teeth. I'm quite pleased and feel like I have a much better understanding of how to handle a tooth if it every comes up again. Dawn

It looks better, but still kind of gross. I can't wait for you to work your magic and transform it into a Cinderella.

Yes, it's still gross, even without the soft tissue.
Dawn, maybe you could eat the hard tissue off it.

I value my teeth too much to chomp into that rock hard tooth. I think what's grossing you guys out is the root which is the top half of the tooth. The actual tooth is really pretty - at least I think it is. When I get done very little if any of the root will show. Plus, my photos aren't very good. Not sure what the problem was with that, but it keeps you from seeing the details and how shiny the tooth is. Pretty sure I know what I'm going to do, but I'm not sure if I'll get a chance to work on it until next weekend. The way this thread is going, it should probably be in the WIP forum! Dawn

Dawn I can see the shininess of the tooth, it came through. You might want to crop that picture more for it to show up close, after you do whatever you're going to do to cover up that root. I think it definitely has character. I had a moler removed whose roots were bent sideways. The poor dentist had a heck of a time wrenching that sucker out. This one looks nice and straight so it must have come out easy - or maybe it was a baby tooth and fell out? I don't know about how that works in horses....

Thank you for the tips on the photos, Jeanne. I'll try that with the next round. The tooth was extracted by a vet because the horse wasn't able to chew it's food because of tooth pain (at least that's what the vet thought the trouble was - hard to know for sure since horses can't talk, except for Mr. Ed, of course). It would take a mouth full of hay, try to chew it and spit it all out. The horse's human found a woman who makes copper dog tags and she is going to make a tag that includes the horse's brand. When the tag arrives, it will be given to me to add the tooth along with a couple of other little things I have in mind. I'm really excited about this project! Dawn

We are on hold while waiting for the copper tag to arrive. I'm thinking about polishing it again - the more I polish, the shinier it gets! Dawn
