The reason to start this was that I have way too much pink beads. I might have ordered two bags by mistake when I made Regency Francie's outfit. Now this little axolotl is not that little and I need a break to decide if I want to make it a large necklace, if I'll add some dangles, what to use for straps if it becomes a necklace.

I think you have the beginning of a really cute bag for those who don't like to carry around a large purse or a backpack. Just big enough to hold some cash, a credit card, a phone and a set of keys. That's probably not what you had in mind, but it's the first thing I thought of when I saw the photo. Really sweet, Cat. It made me smile. Dawn

Thank you, Dawn Definitely not enough space for a phone. Cash, credit card, and one or two keys would work, but who - except me - goes out without their phone? Most importantly, though, this is a finished piece of bead embroidery. I can't just sew on a back part, and I would definitely not have wanted to embroider a back part. Just this took me four days. Also I put cardboard between the embroidery base and the backing to keep it straight while a purse would have to be flexible and have sides as well for more space to fit anything 3D in. So a bag is definitely out.

If you have long thick hair, make a barrette with it?

That's a nice idea, but it's too big for a barrette. Also, since the backing is already finished, the only way to add the barrette would be glue and that would definitely not work for long, especially since I added some cardboard inside to make it more sturdy which means it won't bend easily.
I still haven't decided what to do. Maybe I'll just keep it and put it on my wall.

Putting it on a wall is a good idea, when you cannot think of anything else...
Could you turn it into a unique belt buckle perhaps?

That's a really interesting idea, Irith, but there would be the same problem as with a barrette, glue. Also I have absolutely no idea how to make something like that even if it hadn't been finished yet. I really always make these things for necklaces or pendants, for other things you have to plan ahead and add findings or holes or whatever before the backing is sewn on. My mermaid was really big as well, but more in length than in both directions which made the braided straps I added work quite well. I think for this it would have to be something more substantial, so either a thick beaded rope or I would have to string bigger beads (which I have never done and don't really feel comfortable about).
