You can have my torch, Dawn *lol* It's sitting in the kitchen upstairs well hidden away, so it can't remind me of being a wimp who's afraid to use it!

I'll have to disagree. I'm having lots of fun without my torch!

Cat, much as I appreciate the offer, I can't let you give me your torch. One of these days, you will overcome being a wimp and decide to play with that baby! 2obsessed, good to know that I'm not alone trying to figure out what to do with the pokey ends of twisted wire in the absence of flame. I think I've come up with an cold connection option, but I have to experiment more before I'll be sure. Hey, hubby has a big, old, honking welders torch set-up - I could try that! Or, maybe not - thinking it would melt the metal beyond recognition. Meanwhile, I'm avidly following the torch thread! Dawn

I'll never stop being a wimp, Dawn. After winning the "Wimp of the Year" award 2001 to 2010, that wouldn't feel right Yesterday at work I had to talk to our spokesperson for the disabled. He's a "glass instrument maker", they make all kinds of stuff for the chemistry labs. We talked about fire in general, hit the wimp subject and he said he'd give me a private class to see if I would like it after all. Not sure if that is a good idea. I might blow up our building!

Dawn~ I am new here and have the exact same question! I am taking a soldering class at a community college and thought I'd be clever and twist copper and silver together to make a cute little ring. (Used my husband's drill). I got it to class and didn't even think about the pokey ends...arrgh! Not quite sure how to solder the ends together before twisting (as someone suggested). Let me know if you come up with anything and I'll do the same! I would twist the wire I want to use, just a little longer than necessary. Then twist the wire around a ring mandrel at the size you want the ring to be and overlap the ends. (I would also anneal the metal at this point, but it is not always necessary) Find a place on the overlapping ends where the pattern meets, saw straight through with a jewelers saw, and then solder...Smithy
