I was planning to purchase the ring but I'm a little confused about the metal selection which type of metal should I go with White gold, rose gold, or yellow gold?
Also, guide me on the metal purity of gold I should select 10k, 14k, or 10k.

It's a matter of preference. Each gold color has its friends, some people like to wear just one color, others like them all. As for the purity, that's a matter of your purse. I would always choose the higher purity if I can afford it, especially for a ring that is meant to be special.

A good guide might be to take a look at what colors of metal your girlfriend typically wears. Some mix it up. Others prefer to wear just one type.

I chose white gold for my ring. I've never been a fan of yellow gold, which from what I hear has fallen out of favor with the younger people these days. Rose gold is nice though. If I were going to do it again, I'd choose copper. Making jewelry has turned me into a huge fan of copper, I love the rich, warm color of oxidized copper. Of course, it's not a traditional choice of metal for a wedding ring and it does turn some peoples' skin green, so there is that to consider. Congratulations on your upcoming engagement. Dawn

Oh yes, as far as purity of metal, buy the best ring you can afford. The jewelry store will be able to advise you on that. For diamonds, I'd rather have a perfect small diamond than a large carat diamond full of imperfections. Dawn

Dawn Yes, DawninCal you are right, I would also prefer the ring with the smaller diamond with the perfect rather than a bigger one with flaws! Thank you for your suggestion, it was helpful!

Since budget is not an issue, wouldn't this be a lovely choice for the girl who likes to keep things simple? Medieval Ring DiscoveredIt is yellow gold, but it really is exquisite. Dawn

Isn't it amazing, Michelle!? Another thing to remember is that gold is a soft metal. It is so soft that pure gold can be dented with a fingernail or teeth. I think that's why you always see people biting gold in moves; to tell if it's the real thing or not. Other alloys are added to gold to make it strong enough to be made into jewelry and to be worn and not lose its shape. So, while it may sound good, you really don't want to buy jewelry that is made out of pure gold. Dawn

Dawn, I love the Medieval ring you have posted! I suppose with the tools they had at medieval times it would take much more time and patience to create it, compared to the modern tools of today.

That's one of the things I find so amazing about it, Irith. The tools back then were primitive, yet the jewelry maker managed to create this beautiful ring, set the diamond and do that intricate inscription and I doubt that they had eye glasses or magnifiers back then either. It's just incredible! Dawn

Actually magnifiers are a lot older than the ring. 2,000 years ago they used water. Smarta**, I know. That doesn't influence my admiration for those artists. Just think of the antique treasures of the Mayas, the Celts, and others. I love watching documentaries about them and am regularly blown away. Many of them survived in amazing conditions although they used high carat gold.

Yea, but Cat, wouldn't the water be wavy and distort whatever they were working on? I'm not sure how you could keep water still enough to see the details of what you were working on. And, yea...because you are a SA you probably have an answer to that question! Dawn
