I won these small lampwork beads in a random drawing. While it’s always fun to win, these are not my usual style, so I set them aside. This month, the blog, Earrings Everyday, is having a challenge and the theme is polka dots. I thought that might push me to use these beads. Every color I tried with them looks awful imo. I’m really at a loss. Suggestions?

Do you mean the wire color or do you want to use other beads with them? My first thought was a gunmetal wire, maybe in a simple weave around them. With simple weave I mean something like this that holds back and makes the beads stand out. Not drops, though, maybe something round like the dots?
Another possibility might be to add beads that pick up and compliment the color of the dots.

You could really use most any color with those, especially a sort of muted color. Do you have other lampwork beads?
There's always black... or silver...or pearls?

Cat, I was trying to pair them with other beads, but I’m thinking wire might be a better option. Gayle, I’m thinking you’ve hit on something with the black and silver. Thanks for brainstorming with me ladies!

how about using some black crystal bicones with those? Or, maybe clear crystals. Pink might look cool. I love black and pink together. Any of those would look good with the silver Gayle suggested. I like the idea of pearls too. Combine that with wire work as suggested by, Cat maybe? Be sure to show us the final result! Dawn

Bicones! I like that idea. And if not black, I’ll try clear. The beads are definitely a strange color. Too gray to be brown and too brown to be gray. I’ll definitely show you the result.
I’m having to take it easy today - fibromyalgia is being a naughty bitch - but I keep thinking about these.....

So did you make something with these?

So did you make something with these? No. I try to move outside of my color comfort zone, but these are so far outside, I set them aside. Nothing I put with them looks good to me.

They're interesting beads for sure. The overall look of them make me think of something tribal. Perhaps putting them in an ecclectic style bracelet with beads of similar size in bold colors/textures without a defined pattern. Another idea is to pair them with maybe some black agate or onyx? In any case, I'm sure they'll find their fate one of these days! I go back to old beads I had no idea what to do with all the time.

I like the idea of a lot of bold colors with these beads. I was trying to use them in a polka dot earring challenge. And earrings don’t offer a lot of latitude. I think your idea of a bracelet is a fantastic idea!

I love bracelets and earrings. One reason is that when I finish projects, sometimes I just have odd numbers of beads...or a single bead left over. I put them all in a little bowl...when it fills up I go in and make stuff for myself lol. Over time, I grew to have a lot of bracelets made from odd beads. So I take the one odd one and mix up with some other stack of bracelets. I started doing Y necklaces too for the weird pairs. Which reminds me...I need more chain lol
Polka dot earrings though...hmm well my first thought would be to create a link for the bead then make a cream/white/brown/black ombre cluster with small Czech glass or something and headpins. Accent the focal bead with some metal spacers to match the rest of the earrings? Kind of a 'fancy' look? I dunno...just throwing out ideas lol

I like using the odd leftover beads too! I also quilt, and all my quilts are scrappy. Lonesome beads are like scrap fabric. 😝 I do appreciate the suggestions, but I became so annoyed with the polka dot earring challenge..... Anyway, I’m letting the polka dot earrings slide. I think these beads would look great in amongst some tropical colors - orange, emerald green, turquoise, etc.

You know they are going to haunt you .... but I really get the feeling of being annoyed with uncooperative beads!

They somehow remind me of leopard skin Agate (or is it Jasper?) I think Dawn was right by suggesting to add Black crystals or perhaps I would adapt longer Onyx beads? I think they could look great in a pair of dangle earrings.
