Hi all, In the week before Christmas, my wonderful partner asked me to marry him ;D Although the proposal was a surprise to me, he had managed to work with a local jewellery designer to have the most perfect-for-me ring designed and made - so that means, it's perfect-for-me without any input from me Needless to say, we're both very excited. The question, for me, is therefore, how to craft a secure necklace to wear my beloved ring around my neck for when I can't wear it on my finger? I'm a massage therapist so for a large part of my day, I can't wear it on my hand... but I don't want to lose it, nor do I want to never wear it. At the moment I'm just using a piece of black cord that I loop and knot around the ring, but it's a fairly basic solution. One thing I don't want to use is chain - I want to keep it low-friction. I also want it to be secure (obviously ). I was thinking of getting some nice crochet cotton and crocheting something simple with that? Something to replace the random, cheap, came-with-a-market-necklace black cord I'm using now which doesn't befit something so special or lovely (but a simple crochet cord doesn't seem so special, either?). Anyone have any cool ideas for achieving this? I'm curious

First of all .... congratulations! ;D
Do you really think a chain would be that much of a problem? I've known people wearing their rings on chains all the time, and I don't think there was any harm done to the rings. Actually there will be less wear on a necklace than wearing it on your finger.
There are also those clips you can use as a connector between a chain and a ring, that way the ring stays put and doesn't move around much. You can even use two and connect them to the ring on both sides to make it look a focal on the chain.
I agree with you that a crochet cord doesn't seem special enough for such a piece. A problem with other things is that you can't easily loop and knot them to take the ring off which means it would hang differently, like a beaded rope or a bead crochet rope for example. Of course I also don't know if beads would go at all with the look of the ring.
An interesting question, I'll have to think a bit more.

The first thing that came to my mind was one of Sue's (koolbraider) lovely kumihimo silk cords. Slip a ring/clip thingy on the cord to hold the ring and you'd have a beautiful necklace. If you had a cord custom made for you even better because you could select the colors and pattern to make it even more special. Here is an example of one of Sue's cords, so you can see what I mean: Being silk, it's also wonderfully soft against the skin. Last, but most important, CONGRATULATIONS!!!! Dawn

Congratulations! There are these rubber necklaces called "Silkies." They come in all colors, but I like black myself. The connection is a male-female friction connection. You squeeze one end to release it and it just slides out. I have been using them for years and consider them very reliable. However, the connector for the ring to the necklace... not so sure about that. And I am sure you are most concerned about that regarding friction against your ring, aren't you?

Congratulations on your engagement that is really good news. (My hubby proposed on Christmas day.) Whatever you use make sure it is very secure, I love the kumihino braid idea. Will we get to see the ring soon. ?

oof, made it back! The ring! Of course! I'm not very good at this stuff yet ;D I've done the black-cord-at-work thing and it's stable, obviously, but yeah, not very pretty I did have a client last night who asked me if that was my engagement ring on my necklace so that was the first time I've ever been asked such a thing. Weird feeling, but nice Hoping to have some free time this weekend to devote some mental clock cycles to this!

I have no input for your question, I see people wear them on silver chains or leather cords, but ......... ......... Attachments:
